The Space

Originally architecturally designed in the 90’s, Wistow House takes its name from the bed of book-leaf South Australian Wistow Bluestone it stands on and boasts a unique angular roofline that follows the topography of its hilltop setting. Full of texture, organic materials and earthy tones the property has been restored and renovated with a nod to its origin, while adding all the modern trimmings to transform it into a luxurious family friendly beach stay. Sitting elevated, it boasts both privacy and commanding panoramic ocean views from Victor Harbour to ‘The Bluff’, while being protected from the elements.

With direct top floor entry to the expansive open plan living area, you’re instantly met with the views and sense of space. An entertainers kitchen, oversized table with return window balcony seating and gas fireplace with cosy lounges, create spaces to bring people together.
Over two stories, Wistow House has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two internal living areas, two balconies, a kitchen, kitchenette and large grassed yard.

Each of the four bedrooms at Wistow House offers a unique retreat. The master suite features its own private balcony with ocean views, a walk-in robe, and direct access to the main bathroom, which includes a skylight that looks up into the tree canopy.

Wistow House comfortably accomodated a maximum of 10 guests. For groups of 6 or less the bunk room (the fourth bedroom) will automatically be locked in order to minimise cleaning fees. For bookings of over 6 guests, a fee of $45 per additional guest will automatically apply. If you are staying with a group of six or less and still wish to use the bunk room, please inform your host in advance otherwise it will remain closed by default. Please note, only registered guests are permitted on-site.

We’ve included every inch of luxury with Leif amenities, a Smeg coffee machine with local beans, french linen, and high speed wifi. Interiors are sourced from a range of local and wider Australian artisans, including original art, ceramics and furnishings.

A stay at Wistow House caters for all types of holidays. Spend a warm day, on the secluded Petrol Cove beach, rise early to catch the breathtaking views from atop The Bluff, or hike along the Heysen Trail to kings beach. Or if you prefer a slower pace, soak in the morning light and sunsets from the window seating, or cosy up around the central gas fireplace overlooking the ocean.

***Outdoor Fire RULES

Due to local council regulations, only CHARCOAL may be used in the outdoor fire pit — wood burning is strictly prohibited. Charcoal, a lighter, and firelighters are provided for your use.

Please note: Breaching this rule may result in a significant fine issued by the local council, which will be the responsibility of the guest. We are not liable for any penalties incurred due to non-compliance.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the entire property, including all indoor and outdoor areas. For groups of six or fewer, this excludes the fourth bedroom (bunk room), which remains closed by default.

This room can be opened for an additional fee to accommodate guests beyond six, or if a group of six or fewer wishes to use the bunk room. In either case, please inform your host in advance so access can be arranged.

Neighborhood

Wistow House is tucked away in peaceful Encounter Bay, a quiet coastal village set on the hill with stunning surrounds. You’re just a short walk to the beach and the iconic Yilki Store, perfect for a morning coffee or casual bite. While a car is essential for exploring the wider area, the Encounter Bikeway runs right along the esplanade so bring your bikes and enjoy a scenic ride by the sea. To respect our wonderful neighbours, we kindly ask that quiet times are between 11pm and 8am.

Snakes: This property is located in an area where native wildlife, including snakes, may be present. Please stay aware of your surroundings, take care when outdoors, and keep doors closed to prevent wildlife from entering the property

Fires: Please be aware that the fire danger season typically runs from November through May. Fires are strictly prohibited on Total Fire Ban days. Guests are responsible for checking current fire restrictions online before lighting any fire. Any fines incurred due to non-compliance during your stay will be your responsibility, and the property owners are not liable for these penalties.

Getting Around

While you can easily walk to the beach and nearby spots like the Yilki Store, a car is the best way to get around and explore all that the Fleurieu Peninsula has to offer. If you’re bringing bikes, you’re in luck as the Encounter Bikeway is right nearby and offers a beautiful ride along the coast.
